Precision radiotherapy

What is MR-Linac radiotherapy?

An MR-Linac combines an MRI scanner with a radiotherapy machine in one system. This lets Dr Din see the tumour clearly, in real time, at the very moment treatment is delivered — something conventional radiotherapy cannot do.

Because organs and tumours naturally move and change shape from day to day, this live MRI view means the radiation dose can be shaped precisely around the tumour and adjusted at each session, sparing more of the healthy tissue around it.

Pinpoint accuracy — the tumour is targeted directly, even as it shifts.
Fewer side effects — more of the surrounding healthy tissue is protected.
Often fewer sessions — higher, focused doses can mean a shorter course of treatment.

Precision radiotherapy

What is SABR radiotherapy?

SABR — stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy — delivers a very high, precisely shaped dose of radiation straight to the tumour from many angles. Because it is so focused, treatment is usually given in just a few sessions rather than several weeks, with very little dose reaching the healthy tissue nearby.

It suits carefully selected patients, and Dr Din will advise whether it is right for you.

Cancer that has spread to a few spots

Oligometastatic disease in the bone, lymph nodes or adrenal glands, where each spot can be targeted precisely.

Prostate and kidney tumours

Where a small number of high, focused doses is the right approach for the tumour and the person.

People who value a shorter course

Often just 1–5 treatments instead of many weeks of daily radiotherapy.

Targeted radionuclide therapy

What is Lutetium-PSMA therapy?

Lutetium-PSMA (Lu-177 PSMA) is a targeted treatment for advanced prostate cancer. A radioactive medicine is given by an injection into a vein and travels through the body, seeking out a protein called PSMA that sits on the surface of prostate cancer cells. It then delivers radiation directly to those cells, wherever they are, while largely sparing healthy tissue.

Dr Din facilitates Lutetium-PSMA therapy at GenesisCare Guildford. Whether it is suitable depends on a PSMA-PET scan and your previous treatment, and Dr Din will talk you through what to expect at every step.

PSMA-positive prostate cancer

For men whose cancer shows PSMA on a PSMA-PET scan, meaning the treatment can find and target the cells.

Advanced disease after other treatments

Often considered where cancer has spread and has progressed despite hormone therapy and chemotherapy.

Control and symptom relief

Aims to slow the cancer and help with symptoms, with treatment given as a course of injections a few weeks apart.

Referrals, insurance & your first visit

Do I need a referral to see Dr Din?

Most patients are referred by their GP or another consultant, and this is the usual route as it means Dr Din has your relevant history and results to hand. Self-referrals are also welcome — you're very welcome to get in touch directly and the team will guide you on what's needed to arrange a consultation.

Do you see privately insured and self-funding patients?

Yes. Dr Din sees both patients with private medical insurance and those paying for their own care. If you're using insurance, it helps to have your insurer's name, membership number and an authorisation code before your appointment — please check what your policy covers, as terms vary between insurers. If you're self-funding, the team can talk you through the costs of consultations and treatment when you get in touch.

What happens at a first consultation?

Dr Din will take time to understand your diagnosis and history, review any scans and test results, and examine you where needed. He'll explain what's going on in plain language and set out the treatment options that suit you, leaving space for your questions. You're welcome to bring a family member or friend. Please bring any recent letters, scan reports and a list of your current medications, along with your insurance or payment details.

Consultations and chemotherapy and other drug treatments are based at Circle Health Thornbury in Sheffield. Radiotherapy, including MR-Linac and SABR, is delivered at the GenesisCare centres in Oxford and Nottingham, and Lutetium-PSMA therapy is facilitated at GenesisCare Guildford.
